A good friend, for some days, had a slight doubt about the hearing power of his wife and think of buying her a ‘Hearing Aid’ device. However, he did not speak to her about her defect for his thought as it may make her hurt. At this he wished to seek help from his family doctor who is also a friend of him. The Doctor know him very well and he suggested an idea which could be done at home themselves and at the same time this could be done without the knowledge of the wife. The doctor told his friend thus: “You keep a distance from your wife about 40 feet and ask her a formal question in your normal voice. If she fails to respond reduce the distance to 30 feet and ask the same question. Even she fails reduce the distance further and further to 20 and then 10 feet and ask the same question. Do this until she responds. This will give you the degree of defect your wife has. Then you can tell her without any hesitation about her defect and do the necessary treatment.”

Our guy was happy and did the test on the same evening. How?

His wife was in the Kitchen preparing something for their dinner. This fellow stood in the garden keeping a 40 feet distance and asked, “Darling, what is our dinner tonight?” No Response.

Then he reduced the distance to 30 feet and repeated the question. No Response.
Then he further reduced to 20 and then 10 feet but No Response.
He was very much worried and entered the kitchen.
He stood by the side of his wife and asked, “Darling, what is our dinner tonight?”
She showed a sign of surprise on her face and told him, “What is the wrong with you. Now I tell you for the FIFTH TIME, we will have chicken toast tonight!”
